What is L'ARTERRE?

L’ARTERRE is a networking service focused on supporting and partnering aspiring farmers with farm owners. It prioritizes establishing young farmers by finding new owners for farms (that have no designated successor), acquiring or renting assets, and creating partnerships to ensure the longevity of Quebec’s agricultural businesses and heritage. Project origins and history

L’ARTERRE grew out of the merger of two innovative projects—MRC Brome-Missisquoi’s farmland bank project and the Centre for Social Innovation in Agriculture’s (CISA’s) farm bank project.

The goal of these two projects was to help young farmers access active and unused farmlands. Their merger was made possible thanks to funding from the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation, under the Canada-Quebec Growing Forward 2 agreement, and from the Secrétariat à la jeunesse, through the 2016-2021 Youth Action Strategy.

L'ARTERRE’s partners decided to merge to join forces with the community and develop a collaborative environment by having CRAAQ coordinate L'ARTERRE’s provincial services. (Translated from L'ARTERRE’s website)
