Since January 1, 2009, the Quebec government has required municipalities to charge duties to operate quarries and sand pits. The money collected is used to establish a fund and is redistributed to municipalities for the maintenance of roads used or likely to be used by trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles transporting excavated materials off site.
FAQ
Materials, processed or not, that are transported offsite from a quarry or sand pit are subject to this bylaw.
For example: sand, gravel, clay, dimension stone, crushed stone, ore for making cement and inert mine tailings.
