The welcoming declaration of the Brome-Missisquoi MRC
The MRC of Brome-Missisquoi is a welcoming and dynamic living environment where people of different nationalities and cultures can thrive
Elected officials, agencies and organisations, employers and residents of the MRC of Brome-Missisquoi recognise that immigrants are part of the territory’s history and its identity and that they have contributed to the development of the community for many decades. Immigrants, no matter their origin or status, are residents who actively participate in the region’s development and offer a wealth of culture along with their unique life experiences.
Therefore, as a member of the community, I support the following statements:
In the MRC of Brome-Missisquoi:
- Equal work opportunities and access to inclusive services are offered to all its residents.
- Immigrants, as soon as they arrive in the MRC, can actively participate in the socio-economic, cultural and social development of their community, therefore allowing them to thrive and reach their full potential.
- Harmonious intercultural relations and recognising the important roles immigrant populations play at cultural, social and economic levels are highly valued.
- Local actors play an active role in welcoming and helping with the integration of immigrants. They work together to offer different intercultural encounters and exchange opportunities. This allows each to develop a better understanding of the other and to create feelings of trust, respect, pride and solidarity between all residents of the MRC.
- Each community offers the appropriate conditions for a long-term settlement of immigrants by helping them adapt to their new environment and therefore acquire a better understanding of how our Quebec society functions.
